From the beginning, we believed that gin made with fresh African juniper could rival and surpass the very best in the world.
Procera is made with fresh Juniperus Procera berries, which are bathed in equatorial sun year-round and handpicked from wild trees growing at altitude near our distillery.
With all other botanicals sourced from the best farmers across Africa, Procera aims to capture and celebrate the terroir of our continent in every sip.
By crafting gins of exceptional quality and character, our vision remains to share the very best of Africa with the world.
Procera is named after the majestic Juniperus Procera tree, the only indigenous juniper species in the southern hemisphere.
Bathed in equatorial sun year-round, the Procera tree’s berries offer unrivalled flavour, brightness and quality. Growing wild in the highland forests of Kenya at an altitude of above 2,200 metres, the trees soar more than 20 metres in height.
Its juniper berries are handpicked by the local communities and when distilled create the memorable nutty and earthy flavours for which Procera is renowned.
Every decision at Procera begins and ends with a commitment to improving the environment of our community, continent and planet:
-Working with the Kijabe Forest Trust, we are reforesting Kenya’s highlands with Procera trees by planting one new tree per bottle sold.
-Our signature, handblown bottles are made with 100% recycled glass by our partners at Kitengela Glass in Nairobi.
-The Procera distillery uses a unique zero-waste water system pioneered by our Master Distiller, Roger Jorgensen.
-In sourcing our botanicals, we partner only with farmers across Africa who are at the forefront of sustainable agriculture.

Procera was founded by a group of friends in Kenya who wanted to share the very best of their country and continent with the world.
By establishing Kenya’s first craft distillery and creating the world’s only gins made with fresh African juniper, we set out to revolutionise the world of gin while showcasing the extraordinary terroir and flavours of our continent.
Distilled by our passionate and dedicated team in Nairobi, Procera is beloved by spirits connoisseurs around the world for its unrivalled flavour and quality.
We are excited to share Procera with you and honoured to represent Africa on the world stage.
The gorgeous Procera bottle is crafted by the brilliantly talented team at Kitengela Glass just 9km from the distillery as the crow flies. No two bottles are identical, and each is hand engraved with its own unique production number. Our bespoke craft vessels are painstakingly hand-blown from recycled glass and are ideal for up-cycling once the gin has been enjoyed.
https://www.kitengela.glass/en-usProcera’s beautifully detailed and grained palm-wood stoppers are designed and hand carved on the idyllic Indian Ocean coastline of Kenya in a sleepy town called Kijabe. Ginka and her team of talented woodworkers meticulously source and shape only the finest wood into what can only be described as individual pieces of art.
https://www.instagram.com/studiokoobifora/To date we have planted 10,000 Juniperus Procera trees with the Kijabe Forest Trust. With their help we also work with the local Kijabe community to harvest the best quality Juniper in the region for our gin. Their rangers play a vital role in preventing poaching of animals and also trees, especially the highly sought after Procera tree used for its timber.
https://www.kijabeforest.org/Nothing compares to fresh, local produce, although nearly all the world’s gin makers use dried juniper sourced far from their distilleries. Our proximity to Kijabe, a mere 55 kilometres, allows us to distill fresh juniper. The fresh juice in Procera berries provides an integral component of their character and flavour profile. If you dry juniper you remove the soul and the true terroir of place. This is what sets Procera apart, with the vibrant soul of our home continent captured in every sip.
